About Me

Picture
My husband and I are both retired, but we remain engaged, inspired, and happy because we love each other very much. We are blessed to spend our summers in the Pacific Northwest and our winters in Hawaii. We acquired both properties when no one else wanted them, but they've become rather desirable. We love spending time in both places but for different reasons. In the summer, we entertain friends and family using the fabulous seafood available in season. The remaining fish and crab that we acquire over the summer go with us to Hawaii. We usually have enough to share with our dear friends living there. I spent my career teaching high school and middle school students English and Social Studies. My most recent experience was teaching English, History, Government, and Economics to 11th and 12th-grade students.  Consequently, I'm adding Government 101 Topics focusing on a few democratic ideals and what not to do when visiting our Capitol, using case studies as exemplification.  In addition, I write historical fiction that spans generations and events connecting to United States historical eras.  I have lessons linked to each of the historical novels by era to help students understand that people live through and thus, make history a little more interesting.  I'm also writing stories about actual events that are stranger than fiction.  I spend as much time reading as I do writing, so I'm reviewing some of my favorite books as time permits.  Thus, I'm spending my days engaging in intellectual and physical health.  I'm at an age where health is much more important than beauty, so my weight loss journey is all about health. I've struggled with my weight throughout my life and managed to incrementally yoyo myself up to 199 pounds at the rate of five to six pounds per decade. This adds up to obesity. I want to take control of this weight issue if possible because being overweight impacts my health tremendously. I'm easing into high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and kidney function problems. All of this will bring the rest of me down, and I intend to fight. I'm loving my retirement and my life. My husband and I enjoy every day and hope to be together for a lot longer!
