I've unsuccessfully attempted to lose weight for more than a year. Throughout that time, I exercised every day, exceeding the recommendations of most health experts. I consistently walked more than 10,000 steps, and within that framework, managed at least thirty-five minutes per day of cardio and above. At the time, my husband and I went on the Mediterranean Diet. He lost thirty pounds, and I languished between 198 and 195. Of course, this was terribly frustrating. Of course, this was terribly frustrating. I was happy for him but needed to find a formula that worked for me. So I began researching. I read about other’s struggles to lose weight and recommendations from nutritionists. I settled on keto for several reasons that I will discuss in later blogs. Of course, my age, 72 this October, increases the difficulties surrounding weight loss. And then, there are the things I simply don't want to give up. For example, I enjoy one or two glasses of wine in the evening and never want to give up New Mexico chili, seafood from our bay, or my favorite ethnic concoctions such as chicken masala. So, I set about listing my favorite things, adjusting each to become Keto friendly. Additionally, I researched ideas on maximizing my metabolic rate, and as a result, incorporated intermittent fasting. I began this combination in earnest at the beginning of September, and as I write this blog entry, I've lost five more pounds. It's not a lot and doesn't fall off like it did when I was twenty, but I'm on a downward trek and hope to continue the drop. This blog helps me stay on course, so please join me throughout my journey to better health.
