More good news this week! Stevie is recovering and beginning to feel himself again. We're praying he continues to heal and take care of himself. I've also started losing weight again because I cut out more of my evening wine and reduced food portions. It's reversing my incremental trend upward, and the weight is starting to go down again. I'm so happy that I didn't let myself get too far out of control before I stopped, monitored, and adjusted what I was doing. We enjoyed our visit with Harold and Jake. They arrived on Monday and left on Friday. It was a short visit filled with lots of fun. They went out with Steve on the boat and helped him pull the crab pots, and we had several crab feasts before they returned to Hawaii. Jake doesn't like crab very much, but Harold loves it, so he really enjoys our feasts. I've also begun a new project, building lessons for a Kenyan High School. For now, I'm calling the course The Justification, Legalization, and Termination of American Slavery and its Inescapable Legacy. The first step was to create a course outline delineating everything I felt was essential, and then, I realized that no text exists as support. Therefore, I decided to write the text myself because nothing tells the whole story of slavery from its beginnings through its consequences in terms of the economic oppression suffered by African Americans in the United States of America. The history of slavery didn't end with the Civil War. In fact, the social and economic oppression that many ancestors of slavery currently face began with slavery and its aftermath. Of course, the Critical Race Theory lens offers a framework for understanding current issues facing African Americans and other people of color in the United States. The people requesting this course want Kenyan students to understand slavery and its consequences because many attend universities and colleges in the United States and lack the background that helps them understand those issues facing black Americans. Therefore, I shall make my best effort as I dig through the depths of research and primary documents surrounding the scourge of slavery and hope to emerge in good spirits, given the depressing nature of the facts I'm sorting through. I'll share more on my progress next week.
